As part of the Sciences Po médialab research seminar series, the Webclim project will present its work on “Monitoring misinformation-related interventions on mainstream social media platforms”.
The Webclim project studies how web platforms impact the public’s access to climate information and attitudes towards climate change. During this talk, Shaden Shabayek, Héloïse Théro, and Emmanuel Vincent will present methods used to investigate platforms’ interventions by collecting social media data via APIs and scraping. They will then investigate in more detail Facebook’s “repeat offenders’’ policy, which the company said should result in reducing the distribution of content from accounts that repeatedly post false information, and discuss misinformation in search and recommendations on YouTube.
