The COESO Project (Collaborative Engagement on Societal Issues) has two limited contract/freelance job openings, to be start as soon as possible: a Data Engineer/Data Scientist for data analytics and machine learning (ML) system design, and an NLP engineer and data scientist.
The COESO Project’s mission is to “enable strong growth of citizen science projects in the social sciences and humanities and to support participatory research through a service-first approach”. It is financed by the European Commission, and coordinated from France by the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).
Position 1: Data Engineer/Data Scientist for data analytics and ML system design
Freelance mission equivalent to 60 days, renewable, as part of a European project on the measurement of cooperation in citizen science projects (where citizens participate in data collection for example).
Objective: to define metrics and indicators of cooperation between researchers, citizens and other relevant partners available in the form of cooperation analytics. These analytics will be produced from behavioural traces on a European cooperation platform under development (allowing to set up projects, exchange and store works or resources).
Interest: This project is very innovative and explicitly part of a citizen approach (the code will be open). It will allow the data scientist/engineer to both publish on the topic of cooperation analytics in conjunction with the social scientists leading the project, and to participate in the development of an open platform that promotes citizen science. The final developments will be carried out by another team of the project in charge of the platform but the specifications will have to be taken in charge by the data engineer.
Required: Expertise in Machine Learning and Information Design (Data Viz). Familiarity with the APIs of common platforms for the collection of traces (notably Google environment).
Desirable: Experience in analytics in social listening, in corporate social networks or in the design or operation of workflows.
Workplace: Paris 6eme for 50% of the time. Working language: English.
Position 2: NLP engineer and data scientist
Freelance mission equivalent to 3 months renewable, in the framework of a European project on the measurement of cooperation in citizen science projects (where citizens participate in data collection for example).
Objective: to define metrics and indicators of cooperation between researchers, citizens and other relevant partners in the form of cooperation analytics. These analytics will be produced from text mining of productions (working documents, reports, messaging, emails) carried out on a European cooperation platform under development (allowing to set up projects, exchange and store work or resources). The analysis of topics, topic driftings, knowledge models, conceptual maps, will use all available NLP techniques to detect evolutions in cooperation between partners and between cultural universes.
Interest: This project is very innovative and explicitly part of a citizen approach (the code will be open). It will allow the data scientist/engineer both to publish on the topic of cooperation analytics in connection with the social scientists who lead the project, and to participate in the development of an open platform that promotes citizen science. The final developments will be done by another team of the project in charge of the platform but the specifications will have to be taken in charge by the data engineer.
Required: Expertise in NLP and Machine Learning.
Desirable: Experience in knowledge management or social listening or any other experience in text mining on shared conversations or systems.
Workplace: Paris 6eme, 50% of the time in person. Working language: English.
